Thank you so much!!

I am so happy to be able to announce that we made $3744 yesterday for the Fukushima kids. Our aim was $2000 so we can say it was very successful!

I would like to say THANK YOU to all the people who made this happen. Thanks to all the artists who donated the fabulous artwork. We all know that it takes hours and hours to make such artworks. And special thanks to those who participated from Sydney and Singapore!! Everyone was so happy to be able to get your artwork.

Thank you also to all the performers who gave up their time and showed their talented performances. We had such a great turn out!
...
And last but not least, thanks to all the volunteers who helped in setting up the auction and did so much work on the 11th. We wouldn't have been able to do anything without you.

And of course, to every single one of you who came to the event, and/or who donated. I am pretty sure many people donated generously right after the earthquake, but it is great to be able to collect this huge amount after two years have passed. Yes, it has been two years but the condition in Fukushima is still awful, especially for the kids. It would be great if we can continue to provide such ongoing support for them.

We still have a few more artworks left at Wabi Sabi Garden. Oh yes, thanks for the great vanue, too! Please messag me if you missed the opportunity for these great artworks and to help the children of Fukushima.

We might be able to make it to $4000 :D

Thank you so much!

Love,

Noriko

Event on March 11th 2013

The Fukushima Youth Ambassadors visit to Australia is being organised by a Japanese NPO called Peace Boat, http://www.peaceboat.org/english/supported by Melbourne-based Japanese for Peace (JfP) http://jfp.org.au/en/, The Medical Association for Prevention of War (Australia) http://www.mapw.org.au/ and several other organisations. Although many people are supporting this  programme, more donations are still needed to cover costs and make sure that this can happen.

To learn more about this program please click here.

In response, we are now organising this silent auction to support the program. The money raised will go to directly support the expenses for the kids from Fukushima. Please come and join us at the event in person if you are not too far away.

For those who cannot come in person, bids can also be made via email. Please check this website, and email us by midnight on March 10 with your bid and a contact number you can be reached on March 11. If your bid is the highest on the day we will telephone you to confirm - or, the work will go to the second highest bidder.

Last year also on March 11, we held an event to commemorate the first anniversary of the 2011 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. The money raised on the day was used to send 4000 Koala clips to kids in Fukushima, and this show of support meant so much for the local community.

This year we will also have some great artists performing on the day. There is no charge for entry but all donations will be gratefully received - also showing some respect to the artists who are generously giving up their time for this cause.

Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Artist Statement
The postcards were made in small sets of 5-30, each print a monoprint, different and unique.
Reverse side is signed and dated plus has artist’s stamp. Cards can be kept or mailed.
These postcards were made on machine made cardboard following the Japanese sosaku hanga method of printmaking. Despite the implied reference to woodblocks in Japanese print techniques, it need not always involve woodblocks. The wood may be replaced by other materials such as vegetables, fruit, leaves, string, rubber or other found objects that are sufficiently flat or pliable that they may be inked and pressed onto paper. The creative print (sosaku hanga) approach places the emphasis on the act of making the print. Oh joy!
